Rebuilding a Boeing B-17F is no small task. Adhering to standards of strict accuracy only makes this more difficult. We cannot do this alone.
When the War Department ordered Lucky Thirteen in 1942, they paid $330,297 for an airplane that lasted exactly 75 days until its loss in combat. Adjusted for inflation, that is some 5.4 million dollars. This time she will last much, much longer.
Original parts are always scarce and museums and collectors often competitive. Worse, replicating parts that no longer exist often requires expensive and unique materials. While it may be cheaper and easier to take shortcuts, we feel honor-bound to finish this aircraft to the same standards given to her in service. Working radios, working turrets - it will all be there.
And with your support, we can make that happen.
